At the meeting on Monday talks were opened on the issue of
conditions of employment and the right of workers via the agencies
of temporary employment or work from home.
The president of the Independent Unions Kresimir Sever told Hina
that the method of determining the minimum wage was also
discussed.
Unionists proposed that this be related to the minimum basis to
calculate contributions to pension insurance funds which amounts
to 1,858 kuna (242 euro) per month.
It was also agreed that compensations for the unemployed and
representatives of workers to Supervisory Boards be discussed at
one of the meetings to come.
The unions are demanding an increase of unemployment compensation
(which now amounts to between 500 - 900 kuna or 65 - 117 euros) as
well as the length of eligibility to be extended. Now it is no longer
than 1 year.
Unionists are also seeking that workers' representatives be
included in Supervisory Boards in all companies owned by the
government and local self-government units and privately-owned
companies with more than 100 employees.
The Croatian Employers' Association is opposed to this proposal,
claiming that this will increase costs for employers.
