The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is holding a two-day session in the
Austrian capital. On Friday morning parliamentarians discussed the
protection of human and minorities' rights.
In respect to plans for the conclusion of some OSCE missions or the
employment of a smaller number of staff in some of those missions in
the field, a member of the Italian parliamentary delegation, Daria
Bonfietti, asked the High Representative Rolf Ekeus whether there
were conditions for the OSCE mission to leave Croatia.
"According to the latest data I have, I can confirm that Croatia has
done much to solve the problem of the return of refugees,
particularly in the sense of the legislature," Ekeus said.
Hailing the adoption of the minorities' law he added that he
believed "the OSCE mission should remain in Croatia in order to
monitor the implementation of the law, especially on a local
level."
