make a step toward the European Union. #L#
In an exclusive interview for the Vecernji List daily, Bozanic said
he was under the impression that Croatia did not know what concrete
steps it was expected to make on its path towards the European
Union.
A delegation of the Central European Catholic Day visited the EU
headquarters in Brussels earlier this week. Bozanic, who was part
of the delegation, held talks with the president of the European
Commission, Romani Prodi, on two occasions.
"I am under the impression that president Prodi is open to consider
Croatia's request for membership of the European Union. He sees
that Croatia was now in favourable circumstances for joining in
relation to other European countries which have not yet submitted a
request for membership," Bozanic said and added Croatia could and
should count on the support of Pope John Paul II and the Holy See.
The archbishop believes that joining the Union primarily depends on
Croatia and the unity of its people.
