In an interview he gave to the Pristina daily "Koha Ditore" ahead of
the start of his tour to Tirana, Pristina, Skopje, Sarajevo and
Belgrade, the EU official said the status of Kosovo would be defined
in accordance with the UN Security Council's Resolution 1244, and
unilateral moves would exert no influence on the future status of
Kosovo.
Before solving the final status, the biggest challenge will be the
full implementation of standards and policy of the UN Civil
Administrator in Kosovo, Michael Steiner, the EU official added.
Solana called on all institutions and citizens in Kosovo to invest
maximum efforts in the implementation of those standards.
Asked about the quotation of Kosovo in the preamble of the
Constitutional Charter which Serbia and Montenegro have recently
reached, Solana answered that he had stated on several occasions
that the basis for Kosovo's future status remained the said
resolution of the UN Security Council.
