ZAGREB, Jan 17 (Hina) - Croatia's two dailies with the highest
circulation, Vecernji List and Jutarnji List in Saturday's issues
ran interviews with Ante and Ivica Kostelic in response to an affair
that arose following an article in the Nacional weekly which
accused Ivica of sympathising with Nazi ideology. #L#
"Last summer I gave an interview to Nacional and once it was over I
remained in an informal discussion with the reporter. I had no idea
that the conversation was being recorded. However, I did not say
that I supported Nazism," Ivica Kostelic told Vecernji list.
"As for my statement about being prepared in Kranjska Gora like a
German soldier, it emerged while I was still under the impression of
a documentary war film that I had watched. I agree that I clumsily
used an unfortunate metaphor," the world's best world Slalom skiers
said.
Ivica's father, Ante said that the article in Nacional shocked him.
"I cannot understand that a story can be blown up out of nothing. If
there is anyone that hates or condemns Fascism and Nazism then that
is me, he told Vecernji List, and stressed that it was not right for
him to call President Stjepan Mesic a porcupine.
Ante Kostelic gave a similar interview to Jutarnji List. "If
someone does not know Ivica, myself or the Kostelic family how can
they proclaim us as Fascists?! Of course they can, if they are
evil," Ante Kostelic concludes.
