ZAGREB, Jan 14 (Hina) - The Independent Union of Croatian High
Schools will organise a one-day strike tomorrow. The union is
demanding higher salaries for all high school employees. #L#
The union will be on strike from 8am until 8pm because the
government raised principals' salaries by 20 percent and teachers'
by an average of six percent, while the salaries of non-teaching
staff remained the same, the union president, Andrija Puljevic,
said Tuesday.
Puljevic said the union requests an average increase in teachers'
salaries by 14 percent and non-teaching staff salaries by 20
percent.
The employer must pay for the time spent on strike, says the union,
estimating that some 15,000 high school employees will participate
in it.
The Independent Union's members come from 365 high school
institutions of the total of 416 in the country (363 schools and 53
student dormitories).
