The team, consisting of two specialists - internist E.J. van
Lieshaut and cardiologist R. Tukkie - of the Amsterdam academic
medical centre, will examine the general who has been in hospital
since mid-February due to his deteriorated health condition.
At the request of the ICTY's Prosecution, the tribunal's trial
chamber ordered the tribunal's secretariat to set up an expert team
to examine Gen. Bobetko in Croatia.
On 28 November, the Croatian government notified the ICTY that it
could not execute its warrant for his arrest, which is based on the
ICTY's indictment against the general. The ICTY has indicted the
Croatian army's former chief-of-staff for crimes perpetrated in
the 1993 Medak Pocket operation.
To date, the UN tribunal has sent its teams of experts to verify the
findings of local doctors in the cases of Bosnian Croats Zlatko
Aleksovski and Mladen Naletilic Tuta.
