ZAGREB, Nov 12 (Hina) - The Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) club of
deputies in the parliament on Friday strongly condemned an incident near the
Italian port of Pescara in which the Croatian merchant ship "Orasac" came under
fire from an Italian fishing boat, and called on the government to demand an
explanation from Italy and punishment for the perpetrators."This intolerable pirate attack on our sailors in Italy's territorial
waters is a grave violation of the international law of the sea", the party
said.
"Any disregard for this pirate attack will be perceived as an
encouragement to criminal elements on the Italian side. Many of them want a
conflict with Croatia because they are unhappy with the implementation of our
Ecological and Fisheries Protection Zone and the arrest of Italian fish
poachers in our waters," reads a party statement signed by Tonci Tadic.
The Italian fishing boat fired shots at the Croatian ship off the
Italian port of Pescara on Thursday morning, but no one was injured in the
incident.
