The statement, signed by Mayor Vladimir Stengl and Town Council Chairman Pilip Karaula, came after Party of Rights (HSP) leader Anto Djapic had criticised them for failing to declare their position on Wednesday's incident when a hand grenade was thrown outside the party's Vukovar offices leaving two HSP members slightly injured.
The statement said that Mayor Stengl had presented the information he had about the incident at a Town Council session on Thursday.
"The incident was not raised during Question Time at the Town Council session although it was attended by an HSP councillor," the statement said, adding that the authorities were "certainly concerned about incidents like the latest one that happened in Vukovar".
The statement said that such cases should be dealt with "by investigators and the police without the interference of politicians".
Police arrested three suspects -- Zoran Ostojic and brothers Dragan and Milan Devedzic -- on Thursday morning, and the three are still under criminal investigation.
