BELGRADE, Nov 4 (Hina) - Acting in line with the decision of the
Supreme Defence Council of Serbia and Montenegro of Wednesday, the Serbian
police will as of Wednesday start gradually taking over from the army of Serbia
and Montenegro control of the Serbian border, and the first border will be the
one with Hungary, a Serbian Interior Ministry official said in Belgrade on
Thursday. The head of the Ministry's Public Security Sector, Miroslav Milosevic,
said after meeting his Montenegrin counterpart Mico Orlandic that Montenegro
had already completed the process of police taking over control of the border
from the army. After they take over control of the border with Hungary, the
Serbian police will also take over control of the administrative line dividing
central Serbia and Kosovo.
Milosevic made no particular mention of the withdrawal of the army from
the border with Croatia.
Military analyst Aleksandar Radic told reporters that the police would
probably need the entire next year and possibly a part of 2006 to take over
control of the border.
