ZAGREB, Oct 13 (Hina) - The Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) parliamentary club of deputies asked the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday to call Croatia's ambassador in Italy to Zagreb for consultations following Italian Deputy Prime Minister Gianfranco Fini's claim that Dalmatia, Istria and Rijeka have always been Italian territory.

The HSP demands that Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul report to Parliament about Fini's claim, and that Croatia forward a protest note to Brussels because Fini's claim represents the revival of Italy's aggressive policy towards Croatia, said Tonci Tadic.

He added Fini's claim was an extension of statements made by the Italian ambassador in Croatia about the enforcement of Croatia's fisheries and ecology protection regime in the Adriatic and about the esuli, ethnic Italians who fled Croatia after WWII.

Speaker Vladimir Seks said any territorial aspirations towards Croatia were unacceptable for Parliament, and urged the Foreign Affairs Committee to convene and take a position on the statement Fini made in a newspaper.

Seks labelled Fini's claim unacceptable and untrue fabrications.
