ZAGREB, Oct 8 (Hina) - Three school trade unions, which on October 5 organised a strike of teachers, on Friday sent letters to Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, Education Minister Dragan Primorac, and Finance Minister Ivan Suker, stating their demands which they said should be met by October 15.

The Independent Trade Union of Secondary School Employees, the Independent Science and Higher Education Trade Union, and the Croatian Teachers Trade Union urge the government to open negotiations on salaries in 2005, Christmas bonuses, and other benefits.

They also urge the government and the two ministries to open talks with the trade unions on a possible selective approach to education and science, and talks on the situation and reform of the system of education and science.

"We call once again on Prime Minister Ivo Sanader to hold a meeting with the three unions to discuss the government's plans and policy in education and science," the trade unions said.
