ZAGREB, Sept 29 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament ended its session on Wednesday with a heated debate on a motion submitted by the Croatian Democratic Union Union (HDZ) for the establishment of a commission to investigate the circumstances under which the former government led by Prime Minister Ivica Racan gave state guarantees for the ailing shipyard 'Viktor Lenac" which is now bankrupt.

Deputies of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), led by Branimir Glavas, said they did not wish to compromise their opponents by opening the Viktor Lenac topic, but establish facts about the guarantees given to the shipyard.

MPs of the strongest opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP), whose senior officials -- Racan, Mato Crkvenac and Slavko Linic -- came under the fire of HDZ deputies over the guarantees, said that by moving the establishment of the commission HDZ deputies only wanted to disqualify their political opponents.

Parliament President Vladimir Seks called on the clubs of deputies to submit the names of their candidates for the investigating commission by Friday.

Parliament will resume its session on Thursday with a debate on companies of special interest to the state.
