that September 22 be declared a National Day of the Fight against Violence
against Women, as a lasting tribute to three women who were killed in the
Zagreb Municipal Court during divorce proceedings."By declaring a National Day of the Fight against Violence against Women
we want to raise public sensitivity to this grey area of our society," Prime
Minister Ivo Sanader said in the Parliament.
On September 22, 1999, Mato Oraskic brought a gun into the courtroom
unnoticed and shot dead judge Ljiljana Hvalec, lawyer Hajra Prohic and his wife
Gordana Oraskic, who was seeking a divorce. Recording clerk Stanka Cvetkovic
was wounded.
