ZAGREB, Sept 17 (Hina) - The Croatian government proposed on Friday that September 22 be declared a National Day of the Fight against Violence against Women, as a lasting tribute to three women who were killed in the Zagreb Municipal Court during divorce proceedings.

"By declaring a National Day of the Fight against Violence against Women we want to raise public sensitivity to this grey area of our society," Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said in the Parliament.

On September 22, 1999, Mato Oraskic brought a gun into the courtroom unnoticed and shot dead judge Ljiljana Hvalec, lawyer Hajra Prohic and his wife Gordana Oraskic, who was seeking a divorce. Recording clerk Stanka Cvetkovic was wounded.
