He voiced confidence the Slovene People's Party, the Slovene Democratic Party and the Christian-Democrat New Slovenia, which are EPP members, would win and form the new government, which he added would facilitate the solving of issues with Croatia, where another EPP member is the ruling party, the Croatian Democratic Union.
Also present at the news conference was Slovene People's Party leader Janez Podobnik, who was involved in a Croatian-Slovene border incident last week.
Isturiz said the behaviour of Croatian police during the incident, which saw 12 Slovenes illegally crossing the border and refusing to identify themselves, had been unacceptable, but also added that the Slovene government's announcement that it would deny support for Croatia's European Union integration had in effect been a pre-election move.
Podobnik said Isturiz shared his opinion that Croatia must respect European norms because it wanted to join the EU.
