The presidency of the Democratic Party of the assassinated Serbian
Premier Zoran Djindjic, which held a session on Monday evening, issued
a press release calling on parties in the democratic bloc to urgently
reach agreement on a new Serbian government. This party is against
Kostunica's proposal of creating 'the concentration government' as
this would imply "the return of the Serb Radical Party and the
Socialist Party of Serbia to power".
The Democratic Party, however, is willing to support a
premier-designate whom Kostunica's DSS nominates.
Kostunica's proposal for the set-up of the government which would
include representatives of all parliamentary parties was rejected by
all the parties that won seats in the Serbian Assembly on the 28
December election.
The parties which won seats are the Radical Party led by the UN war
crimes tribunal's indictee, Vojislav Seselj, the DSS of Kostunica,
the Democratic Party led by Boris Tadic, the G17 Plus led by Miroljub
Labus, the coalition of the Serb Revival Movement (SPO) of Vuk
Draskovic and New Serbia of Velimir Ilic, and the Socialist Party of
another war crimes indictee and a former Serbian leader, Slobodan
Milosevic.
Under the Constitution, Serbia's new parliament must be formed by
January 27.
