ZAGREB, Dec 14 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic met senior Bulgarian officials in Sofia on Wednesday, thanking them for Bulgaria's support for Croatia's bid to enter the EU and NATO, the ministry said in a press release.

Grabar-Kitarovic held talks with Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev, Foreign Minister Ivaylo Kalfin, and European Integration Minister Meglena Kuneva.

The two sides said bilateral relations were very good and that economic cooperation should be further improved.

They pointed to the need to further cooperate in strengthening regional stability, and agreed the two countries should draw up a plan of activities which would be founded on expert and technical assistance within a memorandum on cooperation in Euro-Atlantic integration, which Croatian and Bulgarian foreign ministers signed in New York on September 20.

The two sides said it was also important to cooperate within regional organisations, such as the South East European Cooperation Process, which was initiated by Bulgaria and which Croatia is due to chair from mid-2006.

Croatia and Bulgaria have signed 42 bilateral and international agreements. They are currently preparing deals on assistance in customs issues, navigation on inland waterways, and cooperation in telecommunications.

Minister Kuneva shared Bulgaria's experience in entry negotiations with the European Union.

According to the France Presse news agency, Grabar-Kitarovic reiterated the government's expectations for Croatia to join the EU by 2009.
