In the resolution, the Kosovo parliament requested the international community to support the will of the Kosovo people and make Kosovo an independent and sovereign state with guarantees for the respect of minority rights and the preservation of stability in the region.
Originally, the adoption of the resolution should have meant the proclamation of Kosovo's independence, but pressured by the international community, Kosovo parliamentary parties agreed that the resolution be a platform for the negotiations. Deputies hailed the adoption of the resolution with enthusiasm, despite the fact that it did not declare Kosovo's independence.
Councillors of the Community of Serb Municipalities and Settlements in Kosovo and members of the associations of displaced Serbs on Thursday in the northern part of Mitrovica adopted a declaration on the survival of Serbs in Kosovo and dismissed a document by which the Kosovo parliament requested that the province become an independent and sovereign state.
Kosovo was, is and will be part of Serbia and unilateral declaration of Kosovo's independence by Albanian institutions is unacceptable and non-binding for Serbs and it represents an attack on Resolution 1244 of the Security Council under which Kosovo is an integral part of the Serb state, the document adopted by Kosovo Serbs said.
