BELGRADE, Nov 7 (Hina) - Representatives of the Democratic League of the Croats in Vojvodina (DSHV) meet Serbia and Montenegro's Minister for Human and Minority Rights Rasim Ljajic in Belgrade on Monday to discuss the position of the Croatian community in the northern Serbian province.

The meeting followed the adoption by the DSHV of a declaration on the position of the Croats in Vojvodina, which cited numerous examples of violations of their minority rights.

Authorities in Belgrade, including Minister Ljajic, agree that some of the problems raised by the declaration exist, but insist that they are not so big and that the position of minorities in Serbia and Montenegro has improved in recent time.

The declaration cites the insufficient representation of the Croats in the government, the police and the judiciary, discrimination in employment and in the exercise of the right to use the Croatian language in schools and institutions.

DSHV president Petar Kuntic said that the outcome of the meeting was positive and that his impression was that the government was ready for talks on ways of improving the position of the Croatian minority in Vojvodina and resolving their problems.
