Last week, Pekanovic took part in a discussion in the European Parliament focusing on the position of national minorities, primarily Hungarians, in the Serbian province of Vojvodina.
"Such action by institutions of the European Union is expected to help complete the democratisation of Serbia, and for this we obviously need somebody's help," Pekanovic said.
He added that European Parliament observers would visit Vojvodina next month to check the situation.
The HNV head said that the 13 October discussion in the European Parliament was a sort of indirect pressure on the authorities in Belgrade and that such discussions could bring about only progress.
Pekanovic informed European parliamentarians about last year's incidents which were directed against ethnic Croats in Vojvodina and which he said had not been fully investigated.
