Nevertheless, improving relations on the ground requires more joint activities of the minority councils and the local authorities, said participants in the meeting, organised by the Serb People's Council (SNV) and the Council for National Minorities.
The OSCE Mission is satisfied with the protection of the minorities in Lika-Senj County, despite occasional problems with property restitution. Local and county services have been efficiently dealing with such cases, said the head of the OSCE office in Gospic, Stefani Grep.
The task of the minority councils is to ensure proportional representation for the national minorities in local self-government bodies, said the president of the county council of the Serb national minority, Milorad Delic.
The head of the Council for National Minorities, Aleksandar Tolnauer, said the meeting contributed to the implementation of the constitutional law on minority rights on the ground, which he said was a responsibility that should be shared by minorities and local self-government bodies.
