Average employment rate in Croatia 54.9 percent - Eurostat

ZAGREB/BRUSSELS, Sept 10 (Hina) - The employment rate in Croatia among workers aged 15 to 64 was 54.9 percent in 2004, reads a report of the European statistics agency Eurostat, released last Thursday.

The employment rate for men was 62.3 percent, while the employment rate for women was 47.8 percent.

The employment rate for workers aged between 55 and 64 was 29.9 percent (40.6 percent for men and 21 percent for women).

There was 12.4 percent of workers with temporary work contracts, with male and female workers equally represented - 12.4 and 12.3 percent respectively.

In relation to other EU candidate countries, the average employment rate in Croatia was between Bulgaria's rate of 54.2 percent and Romania's rate of 57.7 percent.

With regard to workers aged between 55 and 64, the average employment rate was lower than in Bulgaria and Romania, which had employment rates of 32.5 and 36.9 percent respectively. The percentage of workers aged 15 and more with temporary work contracts in the two countries was lower than in Croatia - 7.4 percent in Bulgaria and 2.5 percent in Romania, reads the Eurostat report, which is based on the EU Labour Force Survey.
