Mesic, on a visit to Slavonski Brod, said statistics showed Croatia was a safe country although newspapers reported daily about crime. "This can be prevented only if the police, the judiciary, the State Prosecutor's Office and intelligence services function. Our conclusions (from yesterday's session) were in the direction that those services should focus more on the implementation of laws. We have good laws, but the laws have to be implemented."
Asked if he felt safe in Slavonski Brod, Mesic said he felt safe everywhere because he was guarded by many people, "but we can't provide every citizen with that. Yet every citizen of this country must be safe".
