The Ministry of the Economy will promote medium-sized and small businesses in a bid to bring the system of standardisation closer to entrepreneurs.
The promotion of the certification of production processes and products, as well as the adoption of and compliance with standards, is expected to result in those production processes and products receiving the green light for the European market, Bracic said.
At the same time, the system of standards will improve the protection of the Croatian economy from unfair, cheap and poor competition, which particularly affects small and medium-sized businesses, he said.
The HNZ, as the national standardisation body, was established as part of an overall reform of the Croatian system of standardisation and measurement, and it was previously part of the State Institute for Standardisation and Measurement. The HNZ started operating in July this year.
The reform, one of Croatia's obligations from the Agreement on Stabilisation and Association with the EU, resulted in the establishment of the Croatian Innovation System, which covers the HZN, the State Institute for Statistics, the Croatian Measurement Institute, the State Institute for Measurement, the State Agency for Measurement, the Croatian Accreditation Agency, the State Institute for Intellectual Property and the Technology Council.
