A representative of the Hungarian minority in Sisak-Moslavina County, Arpad Kis, who is also a member of the Sisak government, commended Croatia for adopting the Constitutional Law on National Minorities' Rights and establishing local councils of ethnic minorities. In this way, Croatia has made great progress in the development of rights of national minorities and application of European Union standards, he said adding that Hungarians enjoy all their rights in Croatia and are equal to Croatians.
Addressing the Sisak event, the leader of the Council of the Hungarian National Minority in Croatia, Peter Sekeres, said that according to a 2001 census in Croatia, there were 16,800 Hungarians in the country, adding the number of those who felt themselves as Hungarians was a little higher.
Present at the celebration were also representatives of local authorities in the ton and county of Sisak.
