Ex-commander of Omarska concentration camp released from jail

ZAGREB, March 31 (Hina) - A former commander of the Bosnian Serb-runconcentration camp of Omarska, Miroslav Kvocka, was released fromprison on Thursday after he served two thirds of his seven-year term,the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY)reported.
ZAGREB, March 31 (Hina) - A former commander of the Bosnian Serb-run concentration camp of Omarska, Miroslav Kvocka, was released from prison on Thursday after he served two thirds of his seven-year term, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) reported.

According to a press release the ICTY released on its web site, "on 30 March 2005, the President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, Judge Theodor Meron, granted Miroslav Kvocka"s Request for early release" pursuant to relevant acts of the UN court.

"On 2 November 2001, Miroslav Kvocka was found guilty by virtue of his individual criminal responsibility on one count of crimes against humanity (persecutions) and two counts of violations of the laws or customs of war (murder and torture) and sentenced to seven years' imprisonment which was upheld by the Appeals Chamber," the press release read.
