Meron met Serbian President Boris Tadic and Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, but nobody spoke to the press after the talks.
According to a statement issued by the Serbian government, Kostunica told Meron that cooperation with the Hague tribunal was progressing well which enabled Serbia to fully meet its international obligations. Meron said the tribunal wold end its work only after the completion of the trials of Mladic, Karadzic and Gotovina.
Justice Minister Zoran Stojkovic said Serbia would solve the issue of cooperation with the ICTY in a short period of time, the statement said.
No statement was issued after the Meron-Tadic talks.
Commenting on the talks in Belgrade, the spokesman for the Hague tribunal, Jim Landale, said in The Hague that Meron requested of Kostunica to extradite Mladic, charged with genocide, to the ICTY.
The tribunal's president encouraged Prime Minister Kostunica to continue investing efforts into the extradition of the remaining fugitives to the ICTY, notably Ratko Mladic, the spokesman said.
