Pandurevic surrendered voluntarily on Sunday. He told Justice Minister Zoran Stojkovic that he did not want the whole nation to be held hostage because of him.
"The governments of Serbia and Republika Srpska have had very good cooperation as a result of which General Vinko Pandurevic has decided to go to The Hague of his own free will. The governments of Serbia and Republika Srpska consider General Pandurevic's decision moral, honourable, responsible and in the best interests of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro and of Republika Srpska," the statement said.
Pandurevic is charged with genocide, violations of the laws and customs of war and crimes against humanity committed by forces under his command in eastern Bosnia during the 1992-1995 war. The indictment says that as commander of the Bosnian Serb Army Zvornik Brigade he was involved in the ethnic cleansing of the eastern Muslim enclave of Srebrenica.
