The government said it appreciated Persic's decision and added it would give all necessary guarantees that the indicted general be provisionally released pending trial.
The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) Carla del Ponte told the authorities in Belgrade late last year that the tribunal would issue another indictment, but she did not say the indictment would refer to Persic.
It is assumed that Perisic could be indicted for crimes in the southern Bosnia-Herzegovina town of Mostar and the Croatian town of Zadar (central Adriatic) in 1991.
Perisic was trial in absentia in Croatia and sentenced to 20 years in jail.
