Ferencak and Nanbudo Institute director Petar Turkovic had purchased a plot of land from the Zagreb city authorities at a favourable price for the construction of a centre for disabled persons, but later resold it at a much higher price, making several million kuna in profit.
The two had been reported by the Croatian Bloc (HB) member of the Zagreb City Assembly, Tomislav Jelic, who claimed that Ferencak and Turkovic had signed an annex to the sales contract saying that the land could be used only for the construction of a centre for disabled persons and that it was illegal to change the original purpose of property.
The Zagreb County Prosecutor decided last week that there were grounds for suspicion that the resale of the property was illegal and requested that Parliament strip Ferencak of immunity as a member of Parliament for purposes of criminal prosecution.
The parliamentary commission stripped Ferencak of immunity unanimously and without a debate. Ferencak also voted in favour.
