ZAGREB, Feb 16 (Hina) - Josip Leko of the Social Democratic Party
(SDP) was unanimously elected chairman of the parliamentary Commission on
Conflict of Interest at the commission's founding session on Wednesday. Nikola
Mak, a representative of national minorities, was elected his deputy. The new commission was appointed on January 20 after its work had been
obstructed for months by inter-party wrangling.
Speaking to reporters after the closed-door session, Leko expressed hope
that "the commission will not succumb to political criteria in deciding on
conflict-of-interest cases" and that it would have the support of members of
Parliament and the public.
