ZAGREB, March 11 (Hina) - Tourism Minister Bozidar Kalmeta said in
parliament on Friday he expected the flat-rate accounting of tourist tax, which
the government moved in amendments to the Tourist Tax Act, to increase the
collection of said tax from the current 64 million to 100 million kuna
annually. The minister presented the government's amendments under which tourist
tax would be established based on the average number of overnights per bed in
the previous year.
The government expects its proposal to significantly improve control of
renting accommodation.
Kalmeta said 50,000 people were registered in Croatia as renting private
accommodation, offering 340,000 beds in total, or 40 percent of overall
accommodation. He added that only 10-30 percent of them paid tourist tax.
The minister announced the government would move a package of laws
regulating tourism by the end of the year.
