Procrastination of the accession talks would destabilise the entire region and would be detrimental to the framework for dialogue that should solve outstanding issues in Slovene-Croatian relations, Jansa was quoted by Slovene Radio as saying.
"I personally believe that the decision on whether the entry talks with Croatia will start on 17 March will be made on 16 March at a meeting of European Union foreign ministers," Jansa said.
Commenting on reports that almost no EU member-state was now in favour of the start of Croatia's entry talks on 17 March, the Slovene PM said that the EU's conclusion on the start of entry talks on 17 March was still in force provided that Croatia was fully cooperating with the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.
Jansa said that the Hague tribunal was not only the prosecution and that EU countries could choose many mechanisms to establish whether Croatia was cooperating or not. He added that Croatia should not be a hostage of one unresolved case.
