PRISTINA, Feb 13 (Hina) - Serbian President Boris Tadic said in Pristina on Sunday he would not give up fighting for legitimate Serb interests in Kosovo.

"Long is the history of hatred and destruction of the entire Balkans, including Kosovo, and this has to stop. I wish to fully contribute to a peaceful solution, but I won't give up fighting for the legitimate interests of the Serb people," Tadic said while visiting St. Nicholas' church, which was demolished during last year's Albanian unrest.

Tadic said some of those interests were free life, freedom of movement, the right to work, and freedom of confession.

Earlier today, Tadic met the UN civil administrator in Kosovo, Soren Jessen-Petersen. There were no statements for the press after the meeting, nor did the UN Mission in Kosovo issue a press release.

In Pristina, ethnic Albanians quietly protested against Tadic's visit.

He began his two-day trip to the province by visiting the Serb-populated village of Silovo, where he said that "Kosovo is part of Serbia and Montenegro not just under our law, but under international law as well".

Tadic is scheduled to visit other Serb enclaves in Kosovo as well.
