BELGRADE, Feb 12 (Hina) - The statement by Serbia and Montenegro Foreign Minister Vuk Draskovic that his country will support Croatia's status of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council has continued to elicit reactions in Serbia, including claims by rightist parties that they will demand Draskovic's resignation, the Belgrade-based "Danas" daily reported on Saturday.

The chairwoman of the Serbian parliament's committee on foreign affairs, Gordana Comic, has said that Serbia and Montenegro could benefit a lot from such a move, which she believes cannot not have any negative effects.

A deputy of the G17 Plus party in the parliament, Suzana Grubjesic, said that Draskovic's position was reasonable. "I believe that Croatia would have supported Serbia and Montenegro if Serbia and Montenegro had been the candidate. There is nothing controversial about that decision," she said, adding that Croatia had made much more progress than Serbia and Montenegro and that it was heading towards the European Union and gradually solving outstanding issues.
