"Croatia cannot compromise its strategic interest, and that is joining the European Union, because of one person," Jakovcic said at a press conference in the northern Adriatic city of Rijeka.
"The truth about the Homeland War can best be defended in the Croatian Parliament or, if necessary, at the Hague tribunal," he added.
Jakovcic said that his party supported the government's foreign policy, praising all the steps the government had taken regarding Croatia's efforts to join the EU.
Speaking of preparations for the forthcoming local elections, he said that the IDS would sign a strategic agreement with the leading opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) on cooperation at national level.
Jakovcic said that the IDS and the SDP would run separately in the elections in Istria, but that they would form a coalition after the ballot.
