ZAGREB, Feb 3 (Hina) - The largest sum of money in the recent presidential campaign in Croatia was spent by the election winner, Stjepan Mesic, whose campaign cost slightly less than 6.5 million kuna (863,213 euros), the State Election Commission stated on Thursday.

Mesic reported having spent a total of 6,488,487 kuna, 50,000 kuna more than his rival in the run-off election, Jadranka Kosor.

Kosor spent 6,438,926 kuna in the presidential race.

The presidential candidate of the Croatian Youth Party, Miroslav Rajh, spent the least funds, 7,500 kuna.

One of the three most expensive campaigns is that of Boris Miksic, who spent six million kuna. Presidential candidates Djurdja Adlesic and Ivic Pasalic spent 1.45 million and 1.23 million kuna respectively.

The presidential candidates also reported their sources of financing. Unlike Kosor, whose campaign was financed solely by the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Mesic's main donors were domestic companies and parties which supported his candidacy.

Mesic received almost 3.5 million kuna from 88 legal persons. The largest individual donation came from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), amounting to 500,000 kuna, which is followed by the Solidum-Zuzic stock company with 450,000 kuna. Close to two million kuna was provided by 56 individuals.

Mesic also reported having spent one million kuna of budgetary funds to which he was entitled because he won more than 10 percent of votes.
