PARIS, Jan 26 (Hina) - After talks with Croatian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks, French National Assembly President Jean Louis Debre, said in Paris on Wednesday he hoped Croatia's negotiations with the EU would start according to the schedule and that the country would meet all conditions set by the EU.

"We want negotiations between Croatia and the EU to be held held in best possible conditions and I am convinced that Croatia wants the same," Debre said after the talks.

Seks, who is on a two-day visit to France, said that during his talks with Debre and yesterday's talks with representatives of the most important political parties in the National Assembly, he underlined that Croatia was doing all it could to remove possible obstacles to the start of negotiations with the EU in March.

"Croatia is doing all it can to successfully solve this one issue, namely cooperation with the war crimes tribunal in The Hague and the issue of the runaway General Ante Gotovina," Seks said.

Debre said that the National Assembly was ready to help the Croatian Parliament, notably its committees which would take part in negotiations with the EU.

One of the topics of today's talks were relations between parliament and the government in the negotiating process.

"We received useful advices on how relations between the government, which is carrying out the negotiations, and parliament, which is monitoring but not taking part in the process, should be," said Seks who is scheduled to meet the president of the French Senate, Christian Poncelet, and French Minister for European Affairs Claudia Heignere, before departing for Croatia later today.
