On Sunday, Croatians can vote either for the incumbent President Stjepan Mesic, supported by eight opposition parties, or for the Deputy Prime Minister and War Veterans' and Family Affairs Minister, Jadranka Kosor, who is the candidate of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).
The first preliminary results of tomorrow's polls will be released by the State Election Commission (DIP) immediately after the midnight when the ban on electioneering expires.
The run-off is scheduled for Sunday, fourteen days after the first round of the elections in which none of candidates managed to collect 50 percent plus one vote. That's why, Mesic, who won 48.92 percent of votes, and Kosor who came in second with 20.30 percent of votes, will compete in the run-off tomorrow.
There are about 4.4 million eligible voters in the country and abroad.
The January 2005 presidential polls are the fourth presidential elections since Croatia gained its independence. The first president Franjo Tudjman won in 1992 and 1997, and Mesic in January 2000.
