ZAGREB, Dec 16 (Hina) - The presidential candidate of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP), Slaven Letica, held a press conference in Zagreb on Thursday to present his platform and members of his election team.

Letica lashed out at his main rivals, the incumbent President Stjepan Mesic and Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) candidate Jadranka Kosor, saying that they had not published their electoral programmes and accusing them of "using dirty tricks".

Letica said that his rivals did not believe in the Croatian people. "They do not believe that eighteen-year-olds were in the trenches and they say that Croatia was never at war with Montenegro," alluding to a statement by the current president.

The HSP candidate said that Mesic's former adviser Zeljko Bagic was not declared a persona non grata in the European Union for his alleged connections with fugitive General Ante Gotovina, but for his involvement in the abduction of a teenage son of General Vladimir Zagorac.

He called on Chief Public Prosecutor Mladen Bajic to investigate "why two cars belonging to the Office of the President were used in the kidnapping and why Bagic was actually barred from the EU".

Mesic denied Letica's allegation on Wednesday.

Letica expressed his doubt about an announcement by the HDZ candidate that, if elected, she would call for Croatia's withdrawal from the Druzba Adria oil pipeline project. He quoted the Prime Minister and HDZ Chairman, Ivo Sanader, as saying on Wednesday that this was Kosor's personal view, which he supported personally, but that the HDZ would take a stance after the completion of an independent analysis of the project's impact on the environment.

Letica signed the Vis Declaration, launched by several environmental organisations on December 6, demanding that Croatia pull out of the project. He stressed he expected his rivals to do the same.

The HDZ presidential candidate also presented a new beer brand, featuring his image on the label, in protest at the "scandalous decision" on the zero alcohol limit for drivers. He noted that no alcohol-free version of the new beer would be produced.
