"The High Representative confirmed to me that he would not impose solutions relating to police reform. Solutions should be found through political negotiations, which will take place in the summer. We want to leave room for the Republika Srpska authorities to meet their obligation of full cooperation with the Hague tribunal by April this year," Mikerevic said in an interview with the Banja Luka newspaper Nezavisne Novine published on Friday.
Mikerevic said Ashdown had accepted his invitation to explain his moves and plans for the further reform of the police and armed forces of Bosnia-Herzegovina to members of the Bosnian Serb Assembly.
In mid-December 2004, Ashdown recommended that police reform in the country should be completed by April and that defence reform, providing for the dissolution of the defence ministries of Republika Srpska and the Muslim-Croat Federation, should be completed by the autumn of 2005.
The proposal led Mikerevic to submit his resignation, which was accepted by the Republika Srpska National Assembly.
