BELGRADE, June 28 (Hina) - The Serbian Supreme Court has upheld the trial court verdict in the case of a former commander of the Serbian Interior Ministry's unit for special operations, Milorad Ulemik Legija, sentencing him to 40 years in prison for killing former Serbian president Ivan Stambolic and an attempt on the life of Vuk Draskovic in Budva.

The Supreme Court said on Wednesday it had also upheld the 40-year prison sentence for a member of the unit Branko Bercek. The sentences for other unit members were changed. Leonid Milivojevic's 15 years in prison was changed into 30, Dusan Maricic was reduced from 40 to 30 years, Nenad Bujosevic's from 40 to 35 years in prison, while the 15-year prison sentence for Nenad Ilic was also upheld.

The indictments against two ICTY indictees - former Yugoslav president Slobodan Miloseivc and former Yugoslav Army Chief of Staff Nebojsa Pavkovic - were excluded from the proceedings because the proceedings before the Hague war crimes tribunal have a priority in relation to the proceedings before national courts.
