Speaking of Kosovo, Kostunica said its future status must be founded on respect for international law and acknowledgement of European values, the Serbian government said in a press release.
"Serbia is willing to ensure essential autonomy for Kosovo within Serbia. This solution is in keeping with the United Nations Security Council's Resolution 1244," said Kostunica. "The solution for Kosovo must not be imposed but the result of compromise, which is also stated in the principles of the Contact Group," he added.
The EU ambassadors agreed that a compromise solution should be found for Kosovo and underlined that the EU attached great importance to stability in the western Balkans.
