PODGORICA, May 31 (Hina) - The Montenegrin Referendum Commission on Wednesday released the final official results of the May 21 referendum on independence, confirming the victory of the pro-independence bloc.

The results show that 55.5 per cent of the voters who turned out for the ballot voted in favour of independence, while 44.5 per cent voted in support of the present union with Serbia. Turnout was 86.5 per cent.

Referendum Commission Chairman Frantisek Lipka of Slovakia told reporters he had received a letter from the Constitutional Court informing him that not a single complaint had been filed with the court by today's deadline of 1615 hours.

The Referendum Commission had previously rejected over 200 complaints from the pro-union camp in connection with the referendum process.

Lipka said he would present the report containing the final results of the referendum to the Montenegrin Assembly, most probably on Saturday.

The Montenegrin Assembly is expected to pass a declaration of independence soon.
