The director of the Jasenovac Memorial Site, Natasa Jovicic, said the new concept of the memorial site, which should be opened in spring, was the result of a close and long-standing cooperation between some 100 experts from Croatia and abroad.
The reconstruction of the Jasenovac memorial site is jointly financed by the culture ministry and the ministry of science, education and sports. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum from Washington DC and the Yad Vashem Museum from Jerusalem helped the realisation of the permanent exhibition.
The concept of the permanent exhibition was set up by architect Helena Paver Njiric.
Science, Sports and Education Minister Dragan Primorac and Assistant Culture Minister Branka Sulc spoke of the importance of the Jasenovac memorial centre.
Israeli Ambassador to Croatia Shmuel Meirom expressed satisfaction with cooperation between the Jasenovac memorial centre and the Yad Vashem Museum, stressing that Croatian President Stjepan Mesic's visit to Israel in 2005 represented a turning point in relations between the two peoples. He said that by reconstructing the Jasenovac Memorial Site, Croatia wanted to point to the dark sites of its history and the victims of the Jasenovac concentration camp.
The present were also addressed by an envoy of the US Ambassador to Croatia, Amy Blisc.
