The flag on the building of the state Presidency in Sarajevo was removed by Federation Vice President Mirsad Kebo, saying this was an expression of respect by institutions of authority towards court decisions. He voiced hope that the federal parliament would form a commission to adopt new insignia as soon as possible.
Last year the Constitutional Court ruled that the Croat-Muslim entity's insignia clashed with the Constitution as it did not reflect the equality of the three peoples living in Bosnia and Herzegovina - the Croats, the Muslims and the Serbs.
The Federation's flag and coat of arms, introduced during the early 1990s war, featured only fleur de lys and the Croatian historical coat of arms.
The Constitutional Court did not contest the red-blue-white flag of Bosnia's Serb entity, Republika Srpska, but it did contest the entity's anthem and coat of arms with eagles.
The Court's decision against said insignia went into force today upon publication in official entity bulletins.
Until new federal insignia are chosen, the Croat-Muslim entity will use Bosnia's state insignia, while the Republika Srpska parliament decided to use a temporary emblem instead of the contested coat of arms. With regard to the anthem, the entity changed the lyrics but not the melody.
The Federation did not have an anthem.
