The city authorities demand that the contract specifies the date of the completion of construction works, that the annual maintenance costs do not exceed EUR300,000, that it includes a possibility of an early buyout in accordance with market prices and that the arena can hold other other non-sport related events.
Unless the Ingra-TriGranit consortium agrees to the new conditions by 29 May, Zagreb Arena will not be built. Should it come to that, the city authorities will present plan B on Wednesday - most probably the reconstruction of the existing sports hall, Dom Sportova.
"The World Handball Championship will be held. And the City of Zagreb will either construct the Arena and finance it together with the government or will implement one of two alternative alternative solutions and carry out a project of a hall with 15,000 or 17,200 seats that will guarantee the holding of the Handball Championship. Everything else is speculations," Mayor Milan Bandic said.
