Apart from the resolution adopted on the basis of a progress report submitted by the EP special rapporteur on Croatia, Hannes Swoboda, the government welcomed the fact that on Tuesday the EP adopted the so-called Pieper report in which the EP gave its support for Croatia's membership of the European Union.
The government is closely taking note of all suggestions with regard to the continuation of reform, notably of the judiciary, and the fight against corruption, to which the government already attaches the utmost attention, the statement said.
The government particularly welcomed the fact that today's resolution was the first time that an official document by a European institution pointed out 2009 as the year of Croatia's possible accession to the Union.
The resolution comes at a time when Croatia has already come a long way in the accession negotiations and it is not only a valuable incentive, but also a clear indication of a successful outcome, the statement said.
