ZAGREB, May 16 (Hina) - A scuffle broke out between eight prisoners in the Lepoglava penitentiary on Tuesday afternoon, but guards intervened quickly, preventing the escalation of the fight in which four inmates were slightly injured, the prison management department of the Justice Ministry reported on Wednesday.

According to the department's statement, last night after dinner four prisoners attacked another group of four inmates. Guards intervened immediately and took two prisoners down by force, thus preventing the escalation of the conflict.

The four injured prisoners got bruises, contusions and superficial cuts.

The department give only initials of the attackers ((I.C., S.T., D.B. and M.B) and the initials of those who were attacked ((D.B., A.G., P.G. i M.P.).

However, the press on Wednesday reported that prisoners of the Serb origin had insulted Croat inmates including Davor Banic and Ante Gudic, convicts in the Lora war crimes case. The press also stated that Banic and Gudic were injured.

The ministry's department said that the four prisoners one of whom is a war crimes convict, started the fight. The other inmates involved in the fight are convicted for attempted murder, armed robbery, forgery of documents, theft and drug abuse.

Disciplinary measures have been initiated against all participants in the incident, and those who started the fight have been isolated from other inmates, the department said.
