Now it is really up to Croatia, he said. In other words, the EU doors are open to Croatia, Rehn added. In my opinion, chances are good that Croatia will be able to meet membership obligations by the end of this decade, Rehn told a group of reporters in Brussels
He reiterated that accession talks with Croatia were proceeding well on the technical level, adding that the European Commission wanted the country to accelerate the judiciary reform and fight against corruption.
The enlargement commissioner declined to comment on the results achieved so far in fighting corruption and the judiciary reform, saying that one should wait for a progress report which the European Commission was scheduled to release this fall.
Speaking about a summit of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), scheduled to be held in Zagreb on Friday, Rehn said that important decisions would be made under which the Stability Pact for Southeast Europe would transformed into a regional cooperation council.
The summit in Zagreb will also be attended by European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, European Parliament President Hans-Gert Poettering and Commissioner Rehn.
